Morgantown Friends of Old-Time Music and Dance is made up of musicians and dancers who organize family oriented Appalachian traditional music and dance events for the greater community of Morgantown, West Virginia. Community square and contra dances are held at Marilla Park. Please look at the schedule for upcoming dance dates.
We welcome all to come and experience the joy of Square and Contra dance… that is fun and easy to learn.
No partner or experience is necessary. If you have never done contra or square dance, we will help you learn the basic steps. You won’t feel lost or alone as a caller will walk you through each dance. Once the music starts everything will fall into place. You can’t help but smile and enjoy moving to the music. You will leave with your heart filled and a wonderful fiddle tune (or two) singing in your head for the ride home.
Contra and Square dancing is energetic and you will get warm so wear comfortable clothes. Causal dresses, jeans, t-shirts or shorts are common attire. We provide refreshments during the break to keep you energized. Bring your water bottle to keep hydrated.
